[catty comments] As an aside, the West Chester parts are on the underside, and I have to say they are ugly as sin. UG-LEEE! I know West Chester has a “logo” and all that, but as a designer I have to say that it has an absolutely bad font choice. It’s so light that it’s unreadable even when you are even close to it. Ugh! Word is it’s one of the few things the township requested during this process was this placement on the post, but really, a nice solid color and a simple yet bold san serif goes a long way. I agree. When I saw the sign this morning, I was really disappointed. It just brings down the whole appearance. I’m sure IKEA and W.C. made some kind of agreement regarding signage, but clearly someone has no taste… and my money’s on a non-Swede.

This is just one more, in a long line, of reasons to be embarrassed that I live in Cincinnati. I agree thoroughly that it’s a)ugly, from a design standpoint or any other and b)tacky. Now we’ll be the joke of all other cities that host Ikea. I would encourage all of you to contact West Chester zoning and ask for Greg who is in charge of signage. They make it impossible for businesses to promote themselves, but have no problem promoting West Chester? What is the city really going to get out of this except bad press and some really irate residents/tax payers? Anyone?

The amazing thing is that a simple sign could be so 1988. It reminds me of the signage in my small-town tacky-ass mall from high school days.

Sorry to whoever came up with that little gem, but seek professional help immediately.

Yah, that really does look ugly and out of place. Do they put up a sign saying “westchester” at McDonald’s and Wal-Mart too? Totally stupid!
